| Port Chester, NY (June 29, 2005) –
Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration’s 90 West Street
project was ranked number 14 by New York Construction Magazine’s
Top 20 projects 2004-05. The annual report lists the most
notable projects in the metropolitan region according to dollar
volume. The magazine cited Seaboard’s work at 90 West Street, a
New York City landmark that the The New York Times called
“9-11’s miracle survivor.” Falling debris from the attack
damaged the building’s exterior and a fire raged for days,
gutting parts of the interior. The building, constructed in 1907
by acclaimed architect Cass Gilbert, has been converted from
offices into 410 apartments.
“It was a privilege to work on such a distinguished
building,” said Michael Y. Ahearn, President of Seaboard
Weatherproofing and Restoration. “In addition to the
significance of this project from an historical perspective, it
is an honor to be able to work in this part of New York City,
which got knocked down, but not out.”
The $145 million project generated coverage by The New York
Times, New York Newsday, and the construction press. Seaboard
Weatherproofing and Restoration reproduced every detail, from
the copper mansard roof to 7,000 new pieces of terra cotta and
ornate hand-cut granite carved in Italy and Canada. Seaboard
revamped the building’s façade and its four-story base, hewn
from granite cubes up to four feet thick, replacing most of the
first three floors of granite base at the north façade with a
new panelized granite system.
Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration is located at 530
Willett Avenue in Port Chester, NY. The Company recently
celebrated their 60th anniversary in business.
